Orr Nir is the Global Director of Cybersecurity at CHEQ. He joined our Fight Against the Fake Web at the beginning of 2022. Previously Orr worked in organizations like IAI, Rafael, Microsoft, AMTRAK, The Israeli and Irish Governments, ATS, Deloitte, KPMG, and others.
Why did you join the fight against the fake web?
I spent 14 years of my life being a soldier, so providing protection is the noblest cause in my eyes. It’s a part of my mentality and I found in CHEQ a company moved by this same purpose. Besides, CHEQ is a company that does something I’ve never done before. Also, the technology and the way the product is designed, are completely unique.
I can actually say to others “our kung fu is stronger than yours” (waited a long time to use this quote…).
How does your role enable the fight against the fake web?
Oh, God. My team and I are everywhere. We are in R&D, research, compliance, I.T., management, reputation, H.R., legal, and so on… We have to be close to every department because, as a cybersecurity company, everything we do needs to be in accordance with the highest security standards.
How has your perception of the fake web changed since you joined CHEQ?
As a security guy, from the perspective of someone who’s trying to protect or design protection against malicious users, I thought I knew a lot about the Fake Web. Malicious users today use a lot of automation and use a lot of fake “IDs,” like a fake IP or a fake username, and being a white-hat hacker for a long time, I was aware of how and what can be done. So I thought I knew enough about it.
But when I joined CHEQ, a company that actually works in this problem space, I realized how much I didn’t know and how much I still have to learn. This is so big in reality – I honestly see the Fake Web today as the disease of the digital world.
What do you appreciate most about working at CHEQ?
The freedom to be me. I can just be me, you know, I can be technologically what I want to be. I can be the person I want to be. This is something I haven’t encountered anywhere else. Most companies you work for, they want you to be like “part of the crew, part of the ship.” Here is different. Of course, you feel you are part of the company, but nobody tries to change you, they try to make you better, listening to you and working with you. That’s what I appreciate.
